The oven symptoms we hear most
- "It heats, but everything burns on the bottom." Failed temperature sensor, a miscalibrated control, or a dead broil element forcing all the heat from below.
- "I smell gas and it clicks forever before lighting." A weak igniter that never draws enough current to open the safety valve. Stop using it and call.
- "The display shows F3 and won't clear." Error code from the control board or the sensor circuit, often an open probe wire.
- "Door won't shut flush and the kitchen gets hot." Worn hinges, a stretched gasket, or a warped inner panel letting heat out.
- "Self-clean ran, and now nothing works at all." Blown thermal fuse or a tripped limit switch after the high-heat cycle, sometimes with control damage too.
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Make sure the oven breaker is all the way on. A half-tripped double breaker leaves the clock lit and the heat dead.
- 2Check whether the control is sitting in Sabbath mode, delay start, or an old timer setting somebody left on.
- 3Open the door and look the bake element over for a crack, a blister, or a burned-through spot.
- 4Run the oven at a low temperature and feel along the door edges for escaping heat, which tells you about the seal.

Is it safe to use the cooktop if the oven is broken?
On an electric range, usually yes, because the surface elements run on a separate circuit. With gas, if you smell gas at any point, shut off the supply, ventilate, and call us before using anything.
Why does my oven take so long to preheat now?
On gas, a weakening igniter is the common culprit. On electric, a partly failed element or a drifting temperature sensor stretches preheat out. Both are testable. A tech reads actual current and resistance instead of guessing.
Can you work on a wall oven built into cabinetry?
Yes. Wall units come out on their mounting screws for access. Tight LA condo installs sometimes need trim removed first, so tell us the layout when you call us and we'll bring the right hands and tools.
My oven runs hot compared to a thermometer. Fixable?
Often. Many controls allow a calibration offset. If the drift is large or jumps around, the temperature sensor is probably failing and gets replaced. We check with our own probe before and after.
Should I run self-clean before a repair visit?
We'd skip it. Self-clean pushes internal parts to extreme heat and regularly blows thermal fuses or damages the control. Wipe the spills by hand. If a self-clean cycle already caused the failure, mention that when you call.
Do you repair older ranges and unusual brands?
